MARYSVILLE — Sunshine, blue skies and low winds made the perfect backdrop to a quick and easy Arlington High School fastpitch win over the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks on May 10 at M-P, ending both team’s regular seasons.

The Eagles were solid both offensively and defensively during the game, clinching a final score of 3-0, and sending them off in style to the 4A District 1 playoff game against the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors on May 15 at Sky River Park in Monroe.

Katelynn Kazen hit an RBI single in the third inning to give the Eagles their first run of the day. She was quickly followed by pitcher Ronnie Ladines who hit an RBI double and Lynsey Amundson who hit another RBI single, reigning in their third and final run of the game. The Eagles were on track to score in the top of the sixth when Amundson hit a double and pinch runner Amy Revelle made it to third on a hit by Hayden Fields.

The team made a strong effort to score again in the top of the seventh when Kathryn Spear hit a single and pinch runner Marisa Rathert made it to third on another base hit from Kazen, but Tomahawks pitcher Monica Clow got the necessary outs. Ladines came through with three easy strikeouts in the bottom of the seventh to finish the game.

Ladines was certainly a star, with 15 total strikeouts and giving up only one hit.

“It was a very good game,” said Ladines, who also noted that she and the team are excited for districts. “I’m super excited. I feel pretty good because we are a strong team and we can go far.”

AHS Head Coach Lonnie Hicks agreed. “The girls played really well, but we have to give credit to Monica Clow. She switched up her pitching and kept us off balance.”

Ladines had a total of 26 strikeouts in her last two games and hopes to bring that skill to the playoffs. The Eagles are the No. 1 fast pitch team in the Wesco North division with a record of 14-1 league and 18-2 overall. They had only one conference defeat this season delivered by Snohomish, the Wesco North No. 2 seed.

The Eagles were set to face up against the Warriors on May 15 in the first game of districts and would play another game that day depending on the outcome of the first. The last time that Arlington faced Edmonds-Woodway — in a home game on May 8 — they handed the Warriors a 9-1 defeat with Hayley Fields as the winning pitcher and strong offense from Hayden Fields who managed a two-run home run as well as Katelyn McDonald who hit a double and a triple with two RBI.

The final two championship games are set for roughly 5 p.m. on May 17 also at Sky River Park in Monroe. If they continue their streak of victories, the team should head to the state championships set for May 25-26 in Spokane.
