The visiting Lady Wildcats of Oak Harbor swept Arlington 3-0 Tuesday, Oct. 3 and the Lady Eagles took Snohomish to five games before falling 3-2 Thursday, Oct. 5.
With APF on the back of the t-shirts worn by the coaching staff, the Eagles entered the court pumped up to face Snohomish.
Head coach Kim Anderson said the motivational acronym stands for aim high, play hard and finish well our motto for the season.
The Lady Eagles volleyball team accomplished a milestone for their 2006 season Thursday, Oct. 5, at Snohomish High School.
Not only did they win two games in a row, but more importantly they took the host Lady Panthers to five games before falling 3-2.
Game scores were 13-25, 25-22, 25-22, 18-25 and 8-15.
It was the first time this season the navy blue clad Lady Eagles had taken any opponent to the full five games.
Snohomish improved to 1-2 in league play and Arlington fell to 0-2, 0-8.
Head coach Kim Anderson said it was a bittersweet feeling taking Snohomish to five games.
They (Snohomish) played really well, we just had a few too many of our own mental, unforced errors, she said. And they decided to come back in that last game and hit the leather off the ball. They started nailing the line which we had been giving them all night.
We had to get Ryanne (Mueller) out of there because her blood pressure got too high and a shes a spark on the team. I think that played a bit of a role when the girls found out she couldnt play any longer.
Arlington started the match with a 3-0 advantage before Snohomish tied it at 3-all.
The two teams battled back and forth before the host Panthers pulled away for a 25-13 game one victory.
Snohomish got off to a 3-0 lead in the second game before Arlington got on the board.
One-two-three focus the Lady Eagles chanted in a quick team huddle.
Arlington trailed 9-5 before calling their first timeout and, shortly thereafter, pulled to within one at 11-10 behind the strong serving of senior Piper Lycke.
After a handful of lead changes, 5-foot-8 senior outside hitter Shayna Prause used strong serving to take a 24-20 lead en route to a 25-22 victory.
Following a bit of a trend, the Lady Panthers once again found themselves ahead 3-0 before Arlington cut the deficit to 3-2 behind two Prause aces.
Snohomish led 7-6 before calling their first timeout and the Lady Eagles emerged fired up behind the hot serving of Prause.
She caught the Snohomish defense off guard with another ace, and she and her teammates rarely looked back en route to a second consecutive 25-22 victory.
The Lady Panthers charged out to game four leads of 5-3 and 8-3 before Arlington used their first timeout.

The Lady Eagles got within one at 8-7 before the hosts nearly doubled their lead to 15-8.
Arlington called another timeout to soothe their nerves and excitement.

Unfortunately, the seven-point deficit is the closest they would get before losing 25-18 and entering all new territorygame five.
The powerful Lady Panthers, surrounded by 28 red and white state championship banners from miscellaneous sports, Hi-Q knowledge team and the band, proved to be too strong at the end and escaped with a 15-8 game five victory for the 3-2 match win.
Five-foot-10 senior middle blocker MacKenzie Tanguay said the momentum was up in the middle two games, but they were unable to finish it.
I think we should have beat them, she said. It was just the little things. One of our goals was to communicate. It was exciting to be that close to any team, especially Snohomish. If we play how we did tonight (against Everett Oct. 10) minus the mistakes, we can beat them.
Oak Harbor won 25-16, 25-15 and 25-19 to improve to 1-1 in league play and 4-2 overall.
With the loss, Arlington fell to 0-1, 0-7.
Senior setter Keesha Carpenter had 19 assists, and senior outside hitter Brooklyn Holton contributed eight kills and 15 digs.
