Arlington teen tops out of 100 at Berry Run (slide show)

TULALIP – Almost 100 runners and walkers participated in the Marysville Strawberry Festival Berry Run at the Tulalip Amphitheatre Saturday.

Isaiah Lowery of Arlington won the 5 kilometer race with a time of 17 minutes, 52.06 seconds. In a neck-and-neck battle for second place Judah Garcia edged out Matthew Knight, with the third-place finisher at 18:15 and Garcia just under that.

All three of them are 16.

Others in the top 10 were: Logan Davies and Deagon Potong, both 15; Taran Holtzclaw, 16; Joseph McLean, 17; Jasmine Nguyen, 16; Brannon Mucke, 54; and Lilli Toone, 16.

In the one-mile race, NJ Brost, 43, was first in 6 minutes, 40.06 seconds with Kim Brost, 40, second about nine seconds behind. Noah Bumgardner, 12, was third in 7:21.01. The rest of the top 10 were: Ben Leiferman, 15; Logan MacEwen, 11; Cael O’Grady, 9; Claire Kimbrough, 10; Corey Barrows, 46; Spencer Barrows, 9; Coach Jeff Sowards and the Lakewood cross country team run the event each year. Proceeds support their Booster Club and Education Foundation, along with Seattle Children’s Hospital and Strong Against Cancer.

Medals are awarded to winners and ribbons to second- and third-place finishers in nine age categories.
