EDMONDS Playing their third game in five days tested the amount of energy and adrenaline the Lady Eagles had in their collective tanks.
With the opportunity to advance to the 3A state championships, Arlington took the FieldTurf at Edmonds Stadium to face Shorecrest Saturday, Nov. 4.
Egen Heffernan of Shorecrest scored the games first goal six minutes into the contest and teammate Gina Adams tallied another one in the 41st minute to put Arlington into a 2-0 hole.
Sophomore midfielder Kristen Allen got the Lady Eagles on the scoreboard with a goal scored on a penalty kick and Shorecrests lead was cut in half.##M;[more]##
Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles their offense was unable to find the back of the net again and their season came to a crashing halt with a 2-1 loss.
Coach Nathan Davis said it was one of the best finishes the team has had in recent years.
We got third in districts and knocked off the number one and two seeds in Squalicum and Mt. Vernon, he said.
We played well for the most part and pretty much outplayed them. Kristen Allen played a great game and so did Jessica VanLoo. The last two games they really stepped it up.
He said his squad had a couple of shots in the second half that hit the crossbar and one that just sailed left of the goal.
Arlington ended their season with a 4-11-5 record overall while the Lady Scots improved to 13-5-1.

In a 3A District 1 loser-out playoff game, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Mount Vernon 1-0 Thursday, Nov. 2, at Edmonds Stadium.
In a rainstorm that was relentless throughout the contest and featured blustery winds along with sideways liquid sunshine, Arlington extended its season for at least one more game.
With alternating chants of Eagle and Power accompanied by a handful of Arlington High School drummers, the game had the feeling of a home game.
Every time the small Mount Vernon began a Bulldog power chant, they were drowned out by the spirited drums and AHS fans alike.
Arlington improved to 4-10-5 overall while Mount Vernon finished their season with a 12-6-0 record.
Junior forward Shaylee Markley scored the games only goal 68 minutes into the contest, and the defense held on to preserve the hard-fought victory over the 1997 state champions.
Markley became the teams leading scorer with her third goal of the season and was set up on the play by senior forward Roxanne Pederson.
Junior goalkeeper Andrea Parlin made arguably one of her best saves of the season when she dove to her left to deflect a Mount Vernon shot in the final seconds of the game.
Coach Nathan Davis was nearly speechless while trying to describe Parlins save afterward.
That was the most clutch save I think I have ever seen her make, he said proudly.
He didnt hesitate in heaping praise on senior center midfielder Kristen Allen either.
Thats the best game weve played at center-mid. Kristen really stepped it up tonight.
Tonight we had several miscues, but overall our midfield performance really stepped it up.
The Lady Eagles will face Shorecrest in a winner-to-state battle for the second and final 3A State berth.
It will be the first meeting between the two teams this season, and Davis said while Shorecrest is not as tenacious as Everett they do have super talented players.

The Lady Eagles soccer team played the Lady Seagulls of Everett to a scoreless tie for the first 54 minutes of their 3A District 1 playoff game Oct. 31 before falling behind 1-0.
The loss dropped Arlingtons record to 3-10-5 overall and improved Everetts to 10-5-3.
The contest featured two teams from the Wesco North division battling for an opportunity to compete among the top teams in the state.
The 7:30 p.m. game at Edmonds Stadium was the second in a double header and took place under temperatures that hovered near the freezing point.
Coach Nathan Davis praised the play of defenders Sam Welch, Nicole Pederson, Kelsey Meyer and goalkeeper Andrea Parlin.
Parlin, who made a half dozen critical saves, appeared to be blinded by one of her teammates on the freak goal scored by Jennifer Peebler.
It was the third meeting of the two teams this year, and Davis said after 240 minutes of play their defense had only allowed a total of two goals.
They did a good job, Davis said. They got beat a couple of times on the outside. Sam played a great game. Shes been solid. Like I told them, in 240 minutes they have scored two goals against us. Our midfield had a rough game tonight.
After Saturday (2-0 defeat of Squalicum) they were really pumped up, he said. They just thought oh yeah were just going to go out and do it. People dont just roll over and die in the playoffs. Everett is tenacious and came out strong the whole time.
