DARRINGTON Three days after falling to 2A Lakewood 57-41 on the road, the Lady Loggers returned to the Darrington Community Center and lost a 43-41 heartbreaker to the 1A Coupeville Lady Red Wolves.
Darrington fell to 1-3 overall on the season.
The Lady Loggers fell behind 14-7 after the first eight minutes of play but came storming back in the second quarter to take a 20-19 advantage into the locker room.
Junior guard Jordan Corley scored the first six points of the second quarter to bring her and her teammates to within one at 14-13 before DHS called a timeout.

After Corley went 2-for-2 at the free-throw line and junior Caitlin Pendergrass added a trey, Darrington had their first lead at 18-15.
Corley added two more free throws and the Lady Loggers took a 20-19 advantage into the locker room.
Darrington kept up the offensive intensity in the third quarter and led 31-29 with only eight minutes of basketball remaining.
Unfortunately for the Lady Loggers the Lady Red Wolves had a little bit more in their tank and outscored the hosts 14-10 in the fourth quarter to snatch a 43-41 victory away from the hands of Darrington.
Senior guard Kristy Turner attempted a long range shot just before the buzzer, but the final attempt was futile as Darrington fell to 1-3 overall.
Coach Benny Bryson said he knew it was going to be a tough game, but he was proud of his squad overall.
Weve got really balanced scoring which makes it hard for the opposition to key in on one person.
High-scorer Corley described it as an awesome game despite the loss.
They (Coupeville) are always physical, but I think we had an awesome game overall, the friendly teen said with a smile.
Darrington vs Cougars
LAKEWOOD The Lady Loggers started their three game non-league week off with a win and a loss Dec. 5-6. Twenty- four hours after defeating Tulalip Heritage at home 52-33 Darrington fell to the Lady Cougars of Lakewood 57-41 on the road.
Senior guard Kylie Thompson tied the score at 2-all after a handful of missed shots by the Lady Loggers in the early stages of the game.
Frable blocked a Lakewood shot and then tallied her first basket to even the game at 4-all.
Frable, Pendergrass and Turner contributed to the offensive output and Darrington trailed 16-10 after one quarter of play.
Thompson and Turner each scored in the second quarter and DHS trailed 23-14 before calling a timeout.
Hey be aggressive the Lady Loggers said in unison before emerging from their team huddle.
Turner scored six unanswered points to pull Darrington to within three at 23-20 and Thompson added one free throw to make it a 25-21 deficit at halftime.
Pendergrass and Corley gave the Lady Loggers their first lead of the game at 28-27 and Frable added another basket for a 30-29 edge midway through the third quarter.
The Lady Cougars went on a 9-2 run to take a 39-32 lead into the final eight minutes of play after Thompson scored with five seconds remaining.
One-two-three Loggers the team said before breaking their huddle entering the fourth quarter.
Thompson added a basket and Turner chipped in a three-point field goal to cut the lead to five at 42-37.
Unfortunately for the Lady Loggers they were unable to erase any more of the deficit and added one more bucket each from Turner and Pendergrass to make a final score of 57-41.
Turner led the team with 16 points and Thompson added nine points in the defeat to 2A Lakewood.
Fourth-year coach Bryson said the 5-foot-4 inch Turner has been the go-to person this season.
She struggled at the line a little bit but has been consistent with 16 points, he said of the multi-sport athlete.
We are trying to find a balance with other girls. Kylie had nine points and is getting more confidence and Caitlin got a quiet 14 rebounds. She (Caitlin) has been awesome on the boards and has really progressed in her first-year on varsity.
