Lakewood loses a couple of close games

LAKEWOOD – The Cougars made a valiant run, cutting the lead to four points with about five minutes left in the game, but visiting Burlington-Edison broke the Lakewood press for some easy shots at the end for a 69-58 win Dec. 20.

The press worked earlier as Lakewood cut the margin to 53-49. A foul, followed by a technical foul, helped B-E get back up to 57-49. Two buckets by Morgan Stacey and a 3-point play by Alex Jensen kept it close. But along with finally breaking the press Lakewood didn’t box out, and B-E got some easy scores under the basket for the win. At Port Angeles Dec. 21, the Cougars fell to the Roughriders 64-63, being outscored 17-11 in the last quarter. Jensen had 16 and Shae Dixon 13 in a losing effort.

Girls basketball

Burlington-Edison beat Lakewood 69-9 Dec. 19.

Boys wrestling

On Dec. 21, the Cougars were 11th in a tourney at Lynnwood. Placing were: 3. Punchy O’Hara, at 145 pounds; and 2. Barret Meyer, 195.
