Lakewood sports getting practice in before winter season

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood girls basketball team returns six players from its district championship team.

Leading-scorer and rebounder junior Jelly Perry returns at guard and scored a team-high 19 points in Lakewood’s season-opening overtime win over La Conner 61-58 Nov. 30.

Other notable starters are senior guard Natalie Neer, junior forward Emily Senyitko and senior forward Jenna Langdon.

Freshman Cassidy Millar is also expected to start.

The experienced team will have its work cut out for it as Lakewood transitioned into the tough NW Conference, which will be comprised of 1A, 2A and 3A schools, coach Chris Walster said.

“We hope to return to the District 1 playoffs, even though the regular-season competition will be formidable,” he said.

LAKEWOOD — Coach Tom O’Hara said Lakewood wrestlers to look out for this season are junior Camden Bach at 160 pounds, and senior Trevor Chase at 220. Both were alternates to state last year. He also expects a lot from Kevin Stokes at 145. Sophomore Cassidy O’Hara was second in districts for the girls at 115 pounds last year and she returns.
