Local girls basketball, wrestling teams go undefeated Tuesday

MARYSVILLE – She’s back.

Maddie Grandbois scored 20 points to help undefeated Marysville Getchell to a 63-43 romp over Mount Vernon Tuesday night.

Arlington and Marysville-Pilchuck also won their girls games that night.

After being a standout her sophomore year, Grandbois missed last season after she was injured during the soccer season.

This year she swam instead. She started the year off slowly, but could not be stopped in the win over MV.

Of course she didn’t do it by herself. Mikali Montez was back in the lineup and added 13 points, and Sydney Norton contributed 10 for the Chargers. MG jumped out to a 24-10 lead and never looked back against winless MV.

Other Charger scorers: Alexus Atkins with 8, Brionna Palm 5, Kiki Green 4 and Kortney Crane 3.

At Arlington, the Eagles broke open a close game by outscoring the visitors 26-14 in the second period to win 70-50 over Stanwood.

Josie Stupey netted a team-high 19 points, Allison DeBerry hit five 3s on her way to 17 points, Sierra Scheppele added 14 points and Hailey Hiatt 13.

Also scoring for the winners were Jordan Bartlow with 4, Abbey Hassing with 2 and Mollie Janousek with 1.

M-P won its first game of the season with a tight 46-44 win over visiting Oak Harbor.

Lauren Lewis led all scorers with 22 points, and Miriah Summers tacked on 16 for the Tomahawks.

But it was MacKenzie Konsor who keyed the victory with a steal with 1.5 seconds and ensuring free throw. She finished the game with just 3 points.

Other scorers for M-P, Alex Grimm with 3, Madyson Baxter 2 and Georgia Bradley 1.
