MARYSVILLE – The Tomahawks jumped out to a 19-8 first-quarter lead and cruised from there to a 65-50 win over Shorewood Tuesday night.
RaeQuan Battle, who led the team with 27 points, got Marysville-Pilchuck off to an impressive start grabbing a rebound off a missed shot and dunking it in. Brady Phillips followed with a 3, and he ended with 11 points.
Later, Phillips lobbed a pass inside to Battle, who had to pirouette in mid-air to catch it, but still made the basket.
Cameron Stordahl scored the first of his 18 points on a fastbreak to put M-P up 12-2 halfway through the quarter. Battle scored on a fastbreak dunk, Alex Jones-Smith drove to the hoop for two and Battle ended the period with a 3.
Ethan Jackson hit Stordahl with a sweet backdoor pass, and when Treven Southard hit a 3 M-P had its largest lead of the game at 27-8. The Tommies went up 29-10 midway into the second quarter after Jackson scored inside. While the visitors chipped away at that deficit they never rallied to get back into the contest.
Aaron Kalab and Dillon Kuk each added 1 point.
Meanwhile, at Meadowdale, the home team kept it close each quarter but Arlington earned a hard-fought 57-50 win.
Griffin Gardoski saw his first major action since coming off a football injury and led the Eagles with 20 points. That effort was needed as usually high-scoring guard Anthony Whitis was held to 9. Will Abram added 9 and Josh Gutierrez 5. Michael Tsoukalas added 14 points
Also Tuesday, Mountlake Terrace beat Marysville Getchell 75-58.
