MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck beat Edmonds-Woodway 73-60 Dec. 21, while Marysville Getchell beat Cedarcrest Dec. 20 72-62.

MG, however, lost at home against Anacortes Dec. 21 59-52.

The Tommies relied on sharp ball movement and cleaning up on the defensive boards in taking down E-W.

Aaron Kalab scored inside after assists from Brady Phelps and Cameron Stordahl to tie it at 7-7. Phelps assisted to Treven Southard then Stordahl scored twice – once after an offensive rebound and another with an assist from Ethan Jackson – as M-P took a 15-9 lead after one quarter.

T.J. Severn hit a 3 to start the second quarter then Stordahl passed to Jackson for another bucket. Luke Dobler assisted to Kalab and Stordahl for two more baskets. After Stordahl connected on a runner, Jackson passed to Kalab for two and then Kalab assisted Jackson, whose short left-handed hook made it 33-23 at halftime.

The teams played fairly even from there as M-P won by 13.

Against Anacortes, the visitors clamped down on MG’s top scorers late in the game in pulling out the win.

Josiah Koellmer’s layup put the home team up 34-33 in the third. His 3 from deep in the corner and Malakhi Knight’s score off an inbounds play made it 41 all after three periods.

Koellmer’s drive and two 3’s, followed by Knight’s offensive rebound, put the Chargers up 52-49 with 1:42 to play. But MG couldn’t score the rest of the game, while while Anacortes hit two open 3’s and four free throws.
