A few weeks ago, it looked like the Wesco North boys basketball title would be decided when Stanwood played at Marysville-Pilchuck as both teams were undefeated.

But Stanwood lost two games in a row last week to take some of the luster off the matchup.

And then on Monday the Tomahawks left no doubt which was the better team, demolishing the visitors 76-31.

As a result, the Tomahawks host a playoff game Saturday night at 7 against either Shorewood or Squalicum. M-P finished Wesco play 14-0, beating Shorewood 65-60, but not playing Squalicum. Meanwhile, at Arlington, junior forward Austin Townsend scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the first half as Marysville Getchell had a surprisingly easy win over the Eagles 73-54.

As a result, MG will play at Shorecrest Saturday night at 7. In the fourth game of the season, Shorecrest beat the Chargers 66-37.

The home team took an early 9-4 lead after Ryan Brown stole the ball off the full-court press twice then made layups.

But Townsend made a 3-point play and then connected on a 3, and Malakhi Knight scored 10 of his 23 points, including a steal and layup at the buzzer, to put the Chargers ahead to stay after the first quarter 21-16.

MG totally dominated the middle two periods, outscoring the home team 38-11, to put the game. Arlington made the score respectable by outscoring MG 27-14 in the last quarter.

Alex Owens added 12 points for the victors.

For Arlington, Brown led the way with 14. Joseph Schmidt added 11, Bryce Petersen 9 and Colby Williamson 8.

By losing, Arlington hosted a game Thursday against Ferndale too late for deadline. The visitors beat the home team in a non-league game in the third game of the year 71-54. If Arlington wins, it plays at Stanwood Saturday at 7 p.m.

Lakewood plays host to either Sammamish or Liberty Saturday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

Lakewood dropped its regular-season finale last Thursday night, falling to powerhouse Lynden Christian 74-62.

The Cougars actually led at halftime 32-27, but the home team got its offense on track in the second half to pull out the win. Alex Jensen led Lakewood with 21 points. Jared Taylor added 15, Morgan Stacey 14 and Shae Dixon 10.
