4 Cougs score in Lakewood’s soccer win

Girls soccer

Lakewood

Four players scored goals in Lakewood’s 4-0 win at Nooksack Valley Monday in a 2A matchup. Layla Thomas and Kaley Chang each had a goal and an assist, while Iliana Ramirez and Kahlan Buckley both scored goals and Mandy Harrison had two assists.

Last Thursday, the Cougars fought to a 0-0 draw against Bellingham.

Arlington

The Eagle girls trounced Lynnwood Thursday 6-1. Jersey Heiss and Jordan Bartlow each scored two goals and added an assist. Carly Bartlow had one goal and one assist, and Ellie Rork added a goal.

After battling to a 1-1 tie at the break, the Chargers tallied two in the second half to win 3-1 Thursday. Alana Gomez led the way with two goals and an assist, while Sofiia Trujillo had a goal and an assist and Maddy Grandbois added an assist.

Arlington

At Arlington Friday, the Eagles beat visiting Lakewood 5-2.

At No. 1 singles, Taras McCurdie beat Eli Ingrum 6-0, 6-2, but Cougar Tyler Edmonds defeated Jacob Bolopue 0-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

Arlington won the next few matches with Cameron Janousek besting Colton Dune 6-1, 6-4; and Aaron Nichols betting by Brad Wood in three sets 1-6, 6-1, 6-3.

At No. 1 doubles, Lakewood picked up its second win with Ben Vanderweyst-Garrett Davis beating Colby King-Clayton Blubaugh 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. The Eagles won the last two matches with Cooper McBride-Aiden Green whipping Ryan Orr-Jackson Lundquist 6-0, 6-1; and Braden Dahlgren-Mason Shepherd doing the same to Cal Eastman-Erik Evenson 6-1, 6-2.

Also, the Eagles trounced Everett 6-1 Thursday. Arlington won the first three singles matches: McCurdie 6-2, 6-3; Ben Nichols 4-6, 6-2, 6-3; and Keaton McBride 6-2, 6-1. It swept the doubles play with Cooper McBride-Aiden Green 4-6, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (5); Bolopue-Janousek 6-1, 6-2; and Jayce Jaubert-Zack Martian 6-2, 6-4.

Marysville Getchell

The Chargers fell to Stanwood 7-0 Thursday.

Cross Country

The Charger girls won a three-team Wesco 3A race at Strawberry Fields Thursday with 19 points. The boys were last with 44. For the girls junior Jasmine Nguyen won the race in 18 minutes, 38 seconds, with teammate Julia Rea second. Juniors Janae Parsons and Lilli Toone were fourth and fifth. Finishing seventh through 10th were freshmen McKenzie Lewis, Karina Anderson and Piper Jones-Moses, along with Karissa Snyder. For the boys, junior Oliver Schwab was third in 16:29, with Xander Johnson fifth, Christian Balgos ninth, Cole Norton 13th and Tyler Rounds 14th.

Marysville-Pilchuck

At Jackson High School Thursday, the Tommies were last in a four-team race in both the girls and boys events with 117 points each.

Arlington

The Eagles blanked Lynnwood 3-0, winning 25-12, 25-11 and 25-10. Ariana Bilby led the way with 10 kills, 9 digs and 2 aces. Teagan Sutherland had 8 kills and 2 aces, Emily Mekelburg 7 kills and 2 aces, and Malia Shepherd 8 kills.

The Chargers lost a heartbreaker to Cedarcrest Thursday 3-2. MG ran out of gas at the end with the scores 21-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-4. Alexus Atkins had 6 kills and a block, Kelsey Kolling 5 kills and 2 blocks, Whitney Harwood 5 kills, Hannah Holscher 6 aces and 9 assists, and Peyton Schmidt 20 digs and 2 aces.
