Its been a frustrating season for the Arlington baseball team.
ARLINGTON Making it look easy, the Bulldogs shook off a slow start to cruise to an easy victory in recreation league softball Wednesday Aug. 29. Their opponents, Wrecking Crew, held their own in the game for five innings, before letting it slip away in the bottom half of the sixth.
The Arlington Eagles girls volleyball team faced a tough challenge last season in the Wesco North conference. Competing against 4A schools took its toll on the 3A Eagles who finished 2-6 in league, 7-7 overall.
ARLINGTON What started out as a baseball game turned into a vicious beating on Wednesday, Aug. 29, as Cuz Concrete demolished Its All Good 25-11.
Seniors enter final season together
As girls work on drilling their serves in the Lakewood gym, the slender purple bands around their wrists are hard to see. But then, as they break to listen to coach Monica Rooney dissect their technique, the wristbands become more noticeable.
LAKEWOOD Utilizing 24 players with 20 boys out for either injury or eligibility issues, the Lakewood Cougars put up an excellent fight against Lynden Christian, falling 25-14. The Aug. 31 game took place under the lights of Cougar Stadium as the home team showed theyre going to be tough all season.
First year coach Cari Britt has faced a huge task this season in rebuilding the Arlington volleyball program. The team has not enjoyed much success in recent years and Britt was brought in to lead them into a new era. The early results have been predictable and Arlington lost another tough match to Monroe on Oct. 19.
LAKEWOOD The Lakewood boys cross country team has run well this season, regardless of the caliber of competition.
The Lakewood Cougars volleyball team had plenty of chances to win their Oct. 16 match with the Granite Falls Tigers. They held leads in all five games but could not finish off their opponents when Granite was vulnerable. After staging a remarkable comeback to level the set score 2-2, the Cougars fell in five sets 24-26, 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 8-15.
The Lummi Blackhawks girls basketball team came into Haller Gym and shut down the Highland Christian Prep offense. They used a tough 2-3 zone to limit the Knights on offense, and hit their own outside shots to win 62-38.
Adding to the already impressive success of Arlington High School over their archrival Stanwood this year, the Eagles boys basketball team took down the Spartans 70-68 in an overtime thriller Jan. 25. Arlington played some of its finest basketball of the season, coming through in the clutch to sneak out of Stanwood with the win.
ARLINGTON In a crucial game with district playoff implications for both teams, the Arlington Eagles took down the Everett Seagulls 67-64 on Jan. 22. The Eagles continued their strong play in the latter half of the season by defeating 3A rival Everett.
