LAKEWOOD The bats came out in full force March 30 as the Lakewood fastpitch squad breezed to a 16-1 victory over Coupeville.
Though the boys and girls cross country teams at Lakewood are among the states best in their division, they werent the only stars at the South Whidbey Invitational Sept. 15.
LAKEWOOD With five outgoing seniors, the Lakewood Cougars prepared an emotional farewell before their game with Archbishop Murphy Feb. 8. Karli Hesselman, Jeneca Hoidal, Jennifer Lind, Emily Steinborn, and Aly Stewart would all be playing their final home game in a Cougar jersey.
ARLINGTON A hard-fought, closely-contested March 29 game between the Arlington Eagles and Everett Seagulls fastpitch teams ended in confusing fashion. Everett plated the winning run in the top half of the seventh inning to squeeze out a 2-1 victory.

In a tough test against a quick Monroe Tigers team, the Arlington boys soccer club slotted home an early goal before falling 2-1 on March 30.
ARLINGTON The lights went on and everybody was home as Arlingtons entire lineup got involved while pounding Oak Harbor on March 27. A devastating seven-run first inning dropped Oak Harbor into a hole from which they never climbed out, falling 13-5.
Lakewood controlled their May 19 State quarterfinal game with Aberdeen from start to finish. The Cougars produced more scoring chances than the visiting Bobcats and generally dominated play in the midfield. Lakewood strung together more passes, put more pressure on the Aberdeen goal and kept Cougar goalkeeper Peter Karrenberg out of danger.
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE The Darrington Loggers easily beat the Ocasta Wildcats 13-4 to advance to the regional finals game May 19, but a tougher White Pass team executed better in the days second game, said Logger coach Gibran Smith.
Morgan Galusha and Bridgette Burkholder won three of their four doubles tennis matches in the 3A district one playoffs. Due to some strange rules regarding state eligibility the pair wont be attending the state finals in Pasco. The May 19 playoff took place at Mount Vernon High School.
Hoops Tourney Returns
Two Mighty Marlin swim team members took top honors in their age group when they competed in the Clear Lake Triathlon July 14.
Two Arlington track stars excelled at the recent USA Track & Field regional held in Seattle. Held at Sealth High School, the regional meet consisted of qualifiers from all over Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.
