The younger Stilly Valley fastpitch all-star team comprised of 11-year olds made its first appearance at the state tournament this past week. The team played four games in the double-elimination tournament and finished third overall.

How often in soccer does it happen that the better team loses? More often than in any other sport. And while Arlington may not have played well enough to beat Snohomish they certainly deserved better than the 4-0 loss they endured in their Sept. 11 match.

ARLINGTON The Arlington Eagle boys basketball team struggled with the Meadowdale Mavericks during their Nov. 29 meeting. Arlington got a good first half performance despite being undersized, but gave up too many offensive rebounds in the second half and wound up losing 72-48.
The Lakewood Cougar boys basketball team took to the court for the first time this season against an experienced Sedro-Woolley side. With six sophomores making their first appearance on the varsity the Cougars showed a bit of inexperience, but overall they looked very good and should be a competitive team this season. Unfortunately, Sedro put together a big third quarter and pulled away enough to hold off the upstart Cougars 71-65.
Watching high school basketball is one of the finer pleasures in life. Witnessing up-and-coming athletes competing at a high level in a tense environment makes me wonder what could be better?
DARRINGTON Mike Parris got the Darrington Loggers basketball team off to a quick start to their season with a free throw line jumper seconds into the game against the Cedar Park Christian Eagles. The next seven minutes werent as pretty, but Darrington righted the ship in the fourth quarter to win a close game 62-54. The Nov. 28 game in Darrington marked the start to a new season and showcased why the Loggers have much reason for optimism this year.
