The third time was the charm for Lakewood soccer, as the Cougars finally defeated conference archnemesis Cedarcrest, 1-0, to win the district championship May 10.
LAKEWOOD — Lakewood senior goalkeeper Peter Karrenberg proved worthy of the Superman-inspired design on his jersey when he entered the goal in overtime and helped the Cougars defeat Lynden in a shootout.
OAK HARBOR — By a 2-1 score, the Tomahawk soccer team closed their regular season with a win, but the boys still walked out of Wildcat Memorial Stadium with heavy hearts, after learning their first-ever league championship would have to wait for another year.
MARYSVILLE — There might have been some bumps along the way, but with a convincing win over Granite Falls, Lakewood baseball drove home that their tie for first place in the conference is no accident.
EVERETT — While Lakewood soccer might not have been trying to win the league — their focus has been more on postseason than regular season laurels — the Cougars’ chances of upending Cedarcrest for the crown dimmed considerably with a 1-0 loss at Archbishop Murphy April 24.
