The Arlington-based Snohomish County Thunder football team kicks off its eight-game season with an April 26 home game against the Puget Sound Pirates.

The Thunder is part of a young Cascade Football League in its second season. The team draws players from different backgrounds, including players with college football ambitions and others involved simply for the love of the game.

The Snohomish County Thunder feature area alumni including Arlington graduate Trevor Milless at quarterback.

In addition to the Pirates, league rivals include Whatcom County Raiders, Olympic Peninsula Eagles and the Tacoma Invaders.

The team will host four of their games, with the first game kicking off at 1 p.m. at Arlington Middle School.

Chris King hired by Applesox

Marysville native Chris King has been hired as the new play-by-play announcer for the Wenatchee AppleSox Baseball Club.

The Washington State University broadcast major currently hosts Spokane-area football and basketball broadcasts for Comcast’s On Demand Game of the Week. King will be heard broadcasting all 53 AppleSox games this summer live on KPQ AM 560. The AppleSox season opens June 6.

Slicker ‘N Nicker Ride-a-thon fundraiser

The EquiFriends Therapeutic Equestrian Program in Snohomish is hosting a Slicker ‘N Nicker Ride-a-thon fundraiser May 10.

Tourney for Teens

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church youth group is introducing its first-ever Tourney for Teens fundraiser golf tournament May 17.

The youth group of students from Marysville-Pilchuck High School will host the event at the Dutch Hill Country Club in a three-man scramble format, starting with an 11 a.m. shotgun start.

A $50 per person fee covers greens fees, lunch, a barbecue chicken dinner, live music and more.

Sports Fellowship League kicks off

The Greater Arlington Church Sports Fellowship League kicks off their softball season May 6 and May 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Games are held at Twin Rivers Park in Arlington and Klein Field in Marysville Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout July. Brian Guiney has been named as the new vice president of competitive play for the Lakewood North Youth Soccer Club.

A longtime soccer player and seven-year coaching veteran, Guiney brings Lakewood Legacy coaching experience to the position.
