MARYSVILLE The Arlington wrestling team looks in pretty good shape for the Wesco realignment in 2008 that will reclassify them as a 4A school.
Arlington was among the best, regardless of class, at the M-P Premier tournament Jan. 12 that drew 18 teams from around western Washington. The Eagles took third place as a team with 10 wrestlers rising to the tops of their brackets.
Arlington was led by three second-place finishes for a 181-point total, just a few points out of second place.
Mid- to heavyweights Jesse Bosley, Chris Myers and Mark Davis took silver at the Premier.
At 152 pounds, Bosley bested Snohomishs Paulk Dellino in the opening round with a pin and an 8-5 decision over 3A-rival Mariners Daniel Link. Bosley followed that match with a pin of Inglemoors Joel Cruse for a championship match against Andrew Miller of Omak. It was there Bosley lost an 11-0 major decision for the bracket crown.
Bosleys teammate Myers also fell in the championship round to an Omak challenger. Myers opened his day with pins, first over Lakewoods Jasper Hauer and then Chase Vasquez of Monroe. A 9-6 decision over Moses Lakes Josh Nielsen advanced Myers to the final round against Robert Miller of Omak, Miller ended Myers campaign with a pin.
Davis ultimately fell to heavyweight champion Michael Pfeiff of M-P for second place at 285 pounds. Davis march to that match included victories over Peninsulas Alan Wheat and J.P Bruckner of ODea. A 5-2 decision over Tad Harman of Moses Lake sent Davis to the title bout.
Arlingtons third-place finishes went to Steve White at 130 pounds, Nathan Shortt at 135, Dom Mangini at 145 and Richard Perkins at 215. Taking fifth were Chris Berg at 125 and Danny Pierce at 215.
Snohomish won the meet with 223 points, but Arlington edged the other three Wesco schools in the mix M-P finished fourth with 116 points, followed by Stanwood in sixth and Monroe in 10th.
