Lakewood beats Arlington at Jamboree; home schedules to save

It seems like local high school fall sports just ended but there was no time off as some teams start playing winter sports last weekend.

Lakewood’s boys basketball team started off its year at the Arlington jamboree. They beat the Eagles head to head 21-9 in their 10-minute quarter. Led by Alex Jensen driving to the hoop and shooting from the outside, along with Morgan Stacey slashing to the basket, the visiting Cougars easily took control of the matchup after the Eagles took an early lead, thanks to offensive rebounding from their bigs inside. In an earlier jamboree matchup, the Eagles couldn’t miss from the outside, but against Lakewood it was just the opposite. Arlington’s boys basketball team returns 6-8 center Will Abram and guard Ethan Martin.

The girls basketball team played at S-W, the boy wrestlers started at ABM, and the girls start Dec. 7 at the S-W jamboree.

The Arlington girls started their year at the North Creek Jamboree. They then beat Seattle Prep easily at home Monday 71-38. They return almost their entire team, including Hailey Hiatt, Josie Stupey, Sierra Scheppele and Keira Marsh.

The boys wrestling team began its year at Jackson. Hayden Strande is among the returnees, along with Dorian Tollenaar. The girls wrestling team starts at the Sedro-Woolley jamboree Dec. 7. Tailer Cochran and Vivian Potong return.

Marysville-Pilchuck’s boys basketball team played in a jamboree at Kings. Luke Dobler returns to lead the team, along with Aaron Kalab and Cameron Stordahl.

The girls basketball team opened against Lakewood, and the boys wrestling team was at home against Monroe and Mount Vernon, while the girls opened against Cedarcrest. The combined M-P and MG swim team starts Dec. 12 at home against Archbishop Murphy. Diver Andrew Kallio returns for M-P, and Kameron Wilkes is back for MG.

Marysville Getchell’s boys basketball team opened at Lakewood. Malakhi Knight returns to lead the team, along with Josiah Koellmer

The girls team started against Bellingham. Maddie Grandbois returns to lead the team, along with Alexus Atkins, Brionna Palm and Kortney Crane.

MG’s boys and girls wrestling teams started off at home against Cedarcrest. Returnees include Cheron Smith.
