ARLINGTON – You could definitely hear the pins drop in Arlington’s 36-33 win over Kamiak Thursday night.

Nine of the 14 matches ended in pins – five for the Eagles and four for the Knights – in the first contest of the year for each squad.

None was more important than the last one. Junior Daniel Heiss won at 106 pounds to lead Arlington to a come-from-behind victory.

Kamiak jumped out to an 18-0 lead, winning the first three matches by pin. But Eagle seniors Sam Rush, Will Rush, Brantly Stupey and sophomore Justin Wammack pinned their opponents, and seniors Gavin Rork won 18-2 and Kristian Fairbanks won 11-1 as Arlington built up a commanding 33-18 lead.

But that almost wasn’t enough.

Kamiak won two decisions, a forfeit and by pin to regain the lead, before Heiss’s heroics.

A key match was at 195, where Arlington’s Cole Hahn bumped up to wrestle an opponent 15 pounds heavier. Even though he lost, he was able to avoid several close calls to save three key points for the Eagles.
