MG Students of the Month both plan to attend Western

MARYSVILLE – Marysville Getchell seniors Tina Do and Walker Braillard are February’s Girl and Boy of the Month, as chosen by the Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis clubs.

Do is the school’s Associated Student Body president, after being vice president, secretary and class president previously. As such she leads the ASB Leadership class to plan, organize and run school activities.

She has taken numerous Advanced Placement classes and has a grade point average of 3.9. For community service, she is a member of Key Club and volunteers at different events at school and around the community, including the Marysville food bank, dances and Homecoming.

She also volunteers a few hours every week as an altar server at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She trains, leads and works with about 30 other servers between the ages of 7 and 20. She received the Marysville Rotary Club’s Community Service Award in December for those works. Do has been accepted to Western Washington University, but may start instead at Everett Community College as she is undecided on a career in medical or business.

Braillard, who has a g.p.a. of 3.7, also is planning to attend WWU and major in business or secondary education.

He is very involved in community service, volunteering to be an assistant coach with the MG girls tennis team. He likes that so much he hopes to coach high school tennis in the future.

He plays on the boys tennis team at MG and was awarded most inspirational honors. He said that’s because he keeps a positive attitude no matter what. He said he developed that philosophy when he was injured playing soccer a few years ago. He was in a wheelchair for three months and on crutches for three more. He said, “Why dwell” on the bad? Braillard also volunteered at various Halloween carnivals around town, did school cleanups with the National Honor Society and helped with assemblies as a member of the executive board with ASB. He is also on Key Club.

He helped raise money for Future Business Leaders of America doing car washes, and helped with the Winter Bazaar at MG. With FBLA he went to nationals in parliamentary procedures.

Braillard is a sales associate at American Eagle.
