The fire initially didn’t appear to reach the house, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said. However, as firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames, they saw more fires burning inside the home.

Firefighters found a man at the house with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported. He was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett with life-threatening injuries.

No word on the cause of the fire at this time.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause and amount of loss.
