Nutter seals win for Eagles with INT; Tommies and Chargers routed (slide show)

ARLINGTON — Arlington’s Devon Nutter caught the game-winning interception in the Eagles’ 22-20 Stilly Cup victory over Stanwood Oct. 14.

The game played out much more competitively than Arlington’s last six wins over Stanwood. Stanwood scored the first touchdown in the opening quarter. The Eagles responded with a 17-yard run by Gabe Green, capped by a two-point conversion, and followed by a defensive fumble recovery in the end zone to boost Arlington’s lead to 15-7. Stanwood scored a TD before halftime, with Arlington taking a slim 15-14 lead into the locker room. Arlington started the scoring in the second half on a 26-yard passing TD from Anthony Whitis that gave the Eagles a 22-14 lead at the end of the third quarter. Stanwood scored a TD but failed on a two-point conversion in the final quarter. Nutter’s interception ended Stanwood’s last drive. Arlington’s record improved to 3-4.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck football team lost to Puyallup 47-26 in a non-league game Oct. 14.

Puyallup scored the first touchdown in the opening quarter, then M-P responded with a three-yard touchdown by Galdino Farjardo to tie it 7-7. Puyallup went on to score two unanswered TDs with a safety in between to stack a 23-7 halftime lead. Puyallup then dealt a two-touchdown shutout in the third quarter.

M-P scored three TDs in the final quarter to outscore Puyallup 21-14: quarterback Kee-An Ballard got into the end zone on a 12-yard run and Christian Snyder scored the last two on a 72-yard run followed on a later offensive series by a 28-yard run.

M-P’s record fell to 2-5.

BLAINE — The Lakewood football team lost to Blaine 44-7 Oct. 14 in a 2A league game. Lakewood’s only touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a touchdown pass from Jared Taylor to Taylor Tresch for 35 yards. Lakewood’s record fell to 2-4.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Getchell football was blanked by Squalicum 56-0 in a 3A North league game. MG’s record is 1-6.
