Vehicular assault injures elderly Arlington man

SMOKEY POINT – A 78-year-old Arlington man sustained possible head injuries Wednesday after being hit by a car in Arlington. Arlington police are investigating the incident as a vehicular assault.

The suspect is a local woman, 29, who is known not to take her medications for mental health issues, city spokeswoman Kristin Banfield said.

The incident occurred about 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Chase Bank on 172nd Street NE. The woman reportedly called 9-1-1 and hung up several times. Others said the woman was causing a disturbance.

When an officer asked her to leave, she allegedly shifted her car into reverse, then struck the man as he was walking by.

The victim was transported to Cascade Valley Hospital for an evaluation.
