Baseball

Riley Krueger tore the cover off the ball in the first inning with a line drive.

If it had been in a gap, he would have easily rolled to the fence for a double or triple.

Instead, it went straight to the Anacortes centerfielder. He barely had to move.

That was the kind of day is was Monday as Lakewood fell to Anacortes 11-1 in five innings.

The Cougars dug themselves in a hole early and couldn’t recover. Six walks, a hit batter, a balk and an error did the damage in the first inning, along with a two-run single.

The visitors tacked on more in the second with after an error and RBI single.

Lakewood had the potential for a big inning in the bottom of the second, but came up with just their only run.

With one out, Carson Chrisman, Daniel Rye and Matthew Irish each hit the ball hard to rightfield for singles. But then Chrisman was forced out at home. Jaden Motta came up with a walk for an RBI, but that was it.

Boys golf

The Cougars finished seventh in a match with 610 points. Ferndale won with 417.

Tennis

Squalicum beat the Cougars 6-1 Monday.

ARLINGTON

Baseball

After allowing Stanwood to tie the game at 3-3 by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Eagles erupted for seven runs in the eighth to beat the home team Monday 10-3.

Paul Chung had a huge day at the plate, going 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI, along with scoring twice. Camdon Anderson went 3-5 with 2 RBI and Cameron Smith also went 3-5, scored twice and had an RBI.

Cole Kramer was the winning pitcher, relieving starter Owen Bishop in the seventh. They combined on a four-hitter. The Eagles pounded out 15 hits.

Girls golf

Arlington beat Stanwood Monday 219 to 258.

MARYSVILLE

Softball

Marysville-Pilchuck took an 8-0 lead after two innings then held on to beat Arlington 8-6 Monday.

The visitors actually outhit the Tomahawks nine to eight, but they were hurt by six errors.

Freshman Emily Downing had a big game for M-P being the winning pitching and at the plate, where she went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. Cassidy Phelps went 2-4 for 3 RBI and Sydney Zachry also knocked in a run.

Lexi Eck led the Eagles going 2-4 with 2 RBI.

At Stanwood, Marysville Getchell whipped the home team 17-7 in five innings.

Leading 8-0 after three innings, Stanwood scored five in the third. But the Chargers tacked on five in the fourth and four in the fifth to win going away.

MG pounded out 18 hits, getting home runs by Faith Lampinen, Brionna Palm and Thea Hatch.

Lampinen went 4-4, also with a double; Palm also went 4-4; and Hatch was 3-4. Hatch also was the winning pitcher.
