M-P loses to O’Dea in state quarterfinal, plays at 12:30 Friday

TACOMA – Marysville-Pilchuck will likely play Ingraham Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Dome after losing to O’Dea 63-53 Thursday afternoon in the state 3A boys basketball tournament quarterfinals.

If M-P wins that game, it would play at 9:30 Saturday morning for fourth or sixth place. If it loses Friday, the Tommies are eliminated.

RaeQuan Battle led the Tommies in scoring with 24 points, but usually high-scoring guard Luke Dobler only had 8 points on 3 of 10 shooting. Battle was 10 for 26 shooting, including 1-for-11 from three-point land.

Cameron Stordahl was 5 of 8 shooting for 10 points, while Aaron Kalab had 9 points and Ethan Jackson 2.

Battle had 9 rebounds with Kalab and Jackson each getting 7 and Dobler 6. Dobler led the team with 7 assists.

M-P, ranked 4th, fell behind 11-6 in the first quarter.

The 11-ranked team then took a 28-17 halftime lead, and led by as much as 21 in the third quarter.

The Tomahawks came back in the fourth to make the score respectable. M-P, 20-4, lost the game at the foul line, being outscored there by 13 points. M-P actually made more field goals, 23-of-56 compared with 20 for 45. But O’Dea, 18-8, was 4 of 7 from beyond the arc while M-P was 1-of16.

Paolo Banshero led the balanced O’Dea squad with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He was 11-of 14 from the charity stripe.
