ARLINGTON As the Arlington and Squalicum girls faced off in a loser-out game at Arlington High School, the teams offensive leaders quickly became visible in the first quarter of play.
Playoff basketball comes with its own unique atmosphere of high intensity play, raucous crowds and pressure to perform. The Arlington Eagles boys basketball team came out strong against the Ferndale Golden Eagles but a cold third quarter cost them a victory and they lost 65-61. The Feb. 20 contest set Arlington back in the district bracket but did not eliminate them from post-season play.

Powerhouse softball team Roads West stormed to another victory on Aug. 22 by defeating the Wrecking Crew 21-10. The score was deceptive as for most of the game Wrecking Crew either led or was close behind.
Eight-year-old Aspen Carbahal, a student at the Northwest School for the Hearing Impaired, has been selected to sign the national anthem for the Seattle Seahawks. Carbahal will attend the Aug. 30 game between the Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders, where she will participate in the opening ceremonies on the field itself.
It would be John Boitanos last season as a coach. After 14 years, this one would be it. And as luck or fortune would have it, the season would end in a glowing crescendo of fire engine sirens and flashing police lights.
