MARYSVILLE The fact that the North County Invite divides runners by graduating class rather than ability can mess up a lot of cross country teams.
Lineman dont often get a large share of the credit on winning football teams from people in the press, but they make the difference in ballgames. Senior tackle Chris Vargus for Darrington plays both sides of the ball and has made a huge impact on the Loggers season. After not turning out for the team last year, Vargus decided to play as a senior and the results are evident. Darrington is 7-0, only having been challenged in one game at Concrete. The Loggers get a second shot at Concrete on Oct. 26, which should prove to be the game-of-the-year for both teams.

The ever improving Eagles volleyball team again showed how far it has come this season. It wasnt enough against a strong Stanwood team as Arlington went down 3-1.
The Arlington boys tennis team put up quite a fight in their rescheduled match with Marysville-Pilchuck on Oct. 12. They came up just short, losing 4-3 at Marysville.
The Arlington Eagles girls soccer team came out flat and stayed that way during their match against Everett. Missing a good opportunity to stoke their playoff chances against 3A competition, the Eagles misfired on their few chances and wound up suffering a 2-0 defeat to a motivated, energetic Seagull squad.
The field conditions werent great and the temperature at field level was freezing, but a determined Arlington football team won a decisive Homecoming victory for their school.
The undefeated Darrington Logger football team continued their march toward history on Oct. 12 with a 56-0 thrashing of Orcas Island. The forest-green Loggers took the opening kickoff down the field for a score and never looked back. Darringtons win streak hit seven games with only two regular season games remaining.
The Arlington Eagle boys basketball team recorded a nifty 78-73 victory over rival Cascade on Jan. 10 behind the overall play of talented senior guard Will Heath.
The Jan. 9 girls basketball game between the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks and Arlington Eagles came down to size. M-P had it and Arlington didnt.
In one of the toughest tests the Arlington wrestling team will face all year the Eagles came up short against Lake Stevens on Jan. 9. The Vikings showed why theyll be a difficult match for all-comers at the state tournament by dismantling the normally strong Arlington side 48-18.
MARYSVILLE The Arlington wrestling team looks in pretty good shape for the Wesco realignment in 2008 that will reclassify them as a 4A school.
