AHS DECA stages ‘Safeway Takeover’ May 4

ARLINGTON — Arlington High School DECA students will return to the Smokey Point Safeway for their annual "Safeway Takeover" from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

ARLINGTON — Arlington High School DECA students will return to the Smokey Point Safeway for their annual “Safeway Takeover” from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

DECA students will be shadowing positions in Safeway, working in Starbucks, the deli and the bakery, as well as with clerks and the store manager, among other areas.

The “Safeway Takeover” gives DECA students the opportunity to experience what it’s like to work at a business in the real world, and at each “Safeway Takeover,” DECA participates in a program to benefit the community.

This year, DECA has partnered with the Arlington Community Food Bank to participate in “Meals ’til Monday,” helping families within the Arlington School District who are part of the free and reduced-price lunch program.

“Meals ’til Monday” collects food and money to help families in need feed their children from the end of the school day on Friday until Monday morning, when they return to school.
