Regarding the recent staged walkout of Totem Middle School Students, it is my opinion that nothing like this occurs unless things are at crisis stage. These children are crying out for help and relief from a dysfunctional and intolerable lack of safety. I applaud their strength and courage to do what was necessary to get the communitys attention.
What is truly important in our lives? What are the things we really treasure for ourselves, our family and our community? When we chose to live in Arlington, what were the things that we looked for that made Arlington more special than other communities? Think about the time when the serious decision was made for our families to live in or around Arlington.
I totally agree with Councilman John Kosters Letter to the Editor. This is a breathtaking moment. Everything he said in his letter, I totally agree with.
A huge Hi-five and round of applause to our Arlington Eagles Hi-Q team and their dazzling victory in this years Hi-Q competition over Kamiak and Stanwood.
I would like to thank the Sunnyside PTSA and the Sunnyside community in Marysville for the support they have shown for the music program at Sunnyside Elementary School. On March 14, there was a garage sale at the school sponsored by the PTSA.
I was disappointed in the lack of balance in the recent story about the city of Marysvilles Bayview Trail. As anyone who has ever run, biked or pushed a stroller down the Centennial Trail can tell you, trails are family places that encourage healthy recreation. Studies have shown they actually reduce crime by creating public space. Most people consider trails a desirable amenity meaning property values increase, not decrease.
I would like to congratulate The Globe/Times staff members who won WNPA awards but would like to challenge one of them to cover an accident waiting to happen.
Boy, where have I been? According to Brian Laine (Oct. 18, letters to the editor) I no longer need the Arlington Public Library because I can get it all from my little old home computer. Wow. Lets see he must mean that I can get those 30 to 40 books I check out each month online for free? And I can get all those wonderful magazines I borrow for free online? And my husband can get all those blues, jazz, and Bob Dylan CDs online for free? And all those woodworking books he checks out? For free online? How about all that local family history research I do for others? Its online for free, too? And those DVDs I borrow for free? What a dummy Ive been.
As a retired military person and a member of two military fraternal organizations, I take umbrage over Representative Rick Larsens television campaign commercials. I have to admit that he is a good campaigner but what he says and what he has done are two completely different things.
I would like to thank Managing Librarian Leslie Moore for all of the help she gave me the last two-and-a-half years while I was researching the history of the women ancestors of my granddaughters two families in order to make her the quilt that hung on the library wall this summer. She very patiently helped me acquire skills I never thought Id have for doing online research, even on two different occasions giving the same lesson on how to really research on the Internet.
The firemen from Oso Fire District No. 25 wish to thank everyone for their donations and help making the 2006 annual salmon bake a success.
The voters of Washington state have the opportunity to correct a mistake they made in November 2000 when they elected Maria Cantwell to replace Senator Slade Gorton. She won by 2,239 votes after late King County election counts came in. Coincidentally, she won in the same manner as Christine Gregoire won the governors office in 2004.
The last six Washington governors, including the current one, Christine Gregoire, and both Republicans and Democrats of the past have all come together to oppose Initiative 933. Theres a very good reason for this: it is a devastating proposal.
