Wedding show
MARYSVILLE – The second Marysville Wedding Show will take place at the Opera House Saturday.
The free event Jan. 25 goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1225 3rd St.
Attendees can browse vendors offering services and gifts to prepare for weddings, honeymoons and newlyweds. Swag bags will be given to the first 100 attendees. A fashion show begins at 1 p.m.
Police Explorers
ARLINGTON – Is your teen interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, emergency services, or criminal justice?
The Arlington Police Department is looking for young men and women ages 14-21 to participate in a newly forming Arlington Police Explorers program. An open house will be held Feb. 11 at 3:30 p.m. at Arlington High School. Information on the program and how to sign up will be available then.
The Explorer Program will provide its members with training and experience needed to determine whether to pursue a career in law enforcement, emergency services or criminal justice. Members can volunteer at community events doing security work, directing traffic, fingerprinting small children and assisting with crime prevention programs. Members also learn first hand how police do their jobs.
Fire insurance
MARYSVILLE – Snohomish County Fire District 12 has improved to a Protection Class 3 rating by the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau, meaning thousands of homeowners could see lower insurance premiums. The rating change also means the entire Marysville Fire District, which includes District 12, will be rated at Class 3 effective in May.
Ratings range from Class 1 to 10. A lower rating may allow insurance companies to offer lower rates based on the fire district’s ability to extinguish fires more quickly and effectively.
“We have worked extremely hard to achieve this lower rating for our residents,” Fire Marshal Tom Maloney said. “From our business safety inspections to firefighter training to vehicle maintenance – everything we’re doing is helping make our community safer, and this new rating shows that.”

ARLINGTON – Snohomish County’s Complete Count Committee is joining with the city and Arlington schools to host Census 101 Trainings and Questionnaire Assistance Events through April.
Free sessions explaining the Census will be:
•Feb. 12 – 6-7:30 p.m., City Hall, 110 E. Third St.
•Feb. 22 – 1-2:30 p.m., City Hall
Training for Community Advocates will be:
•Jan. 25 – 10 a.m.-noon, Arlington School District, 315 N. French Ave.
Questionnaire Assistance Event will be:
•March 28 – 10 a.m.-2 p.m., City Hall.
No increase
ARLINGTON – Customers of Arlington’s water, sewer, and stormwater utilities will not see an increase in their utility bill in 2020. Since 2010, the city ordinance has required a rate increase, but the City Council canceled it Tuesday for the eighth-straight year. Also, starting this month, the city will change its utility billing practices to include a payment reminder for those who have not paid their bill by the due date. Fire honors
ARLINGTON – At the Jan. 6, 2020 City Council meeting, 12 employees from Arlington Fire were recognized for their years of service.
Honored for 20 years were: Al Chamberlin, Chris Dickison, Scott Hillis, Phil Knepper, Greg Koontz and Jason Nyblod. Justin Honsowetz was honored for 15 years. Honored for 10 years were: Jason Brisson, Paul Hunsaker, Kirk Normand and Brian Price. Ethan Pederson was honored for five years.
