Learn about comics, Digital Bookmobile at Marysville Library

MARYSVILLE – The Marysville Library will host an expert on comics along with the Digital Bookmobile, both in mid-October.

The Digital Bookmobile National Tour will stop at the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 17.

And teen and adult comic-book fans are invited to the library Oct. 12 to learn how comic-book heroes and the real world shape each other.

From 4 to 5:30 p.m. journalist and comics-studies educator T. Andrew Wahl will explain how four-color heroes are not confined to paper. Admission is free. Light snacks will be served.

Relive key historic events through characters such as Black Panther, Captain America and Wonder Woman. Wahl’s interactive presentation will span the dawn of comics in the 1930s to present-day blockbuster film franchises. Learn how social movements, business concerns, changing demographics and other societal issues shaped the reality seen in comics. Discover how comic-book characters and their stories in turn shaped our national identity.

Meanwhile, library visitors can learn about all of the digital offerings Sno-Isle Libraries offers through OverDrive, including ebooks, audiobooks, The Great Courses, magazines, movies, children’s stories and activities.

Digital Bookmobile events are free and open to readers of all ages. Sno-Isle Libraries and Overdrive staff will guide visitors through the easy process of borrowing digital books.

Readers with a library card can borrow their favorite titles anytime online by visiting sno-isle.org/digitalmedia or by downloading the library’s one-tap reading app, Libby, powered by OverDrive. Sign up for a Sno-Isle Libraries card with photo identification.
