Big cash discounts remain for wood stove replacement

Marysville fireplace dealers helping extend Clean Air program in Snohomish County

If you haven’t already taken advantage of Puget Sound Clean Air Agency’s (PSCAA) $1,500 incentive program for wood stove replacement in Snohomish County, you’re in luck!

Due to its demand and the availability of additional federal funding, the program has been extended and more discount vouchers are being made available to residents looking to swap out low-efficiency, higher polluting stoves and inserts with cleaner-burning units.

Eric Shaw with Marysville-based Four Day Fireplace says they’ve guided a number of people through the process of replacing their old wood stoves with new high-efficiency and clean burning inserts.

“Not only was it a resounding success, there were many people who hadn’t realized it was available,” he says. The company guides customers through everything from the grant submission to the permitting process, to ensure they meet the PSCAA’s requirements, Shaw adds.

A pleasant surprise

Snohomish County resident Randy Snow and his wife had a crew from Four Day Fireplace replace their old wood stove with a new high-efficiency gas insert heater in the bottom floor of their tri-level home, helped by the $1,500 discount offered by the PSCAA.

He’s been amazed at how well the insert heats their entire home and he doesn’t miss having to chop wood to feed the old stove. “I wasn’t even aware of the program until we went shopping for the insert and found out about it,” Snow says. “The insert fit our scenario perfectly and the discount made it a little easier to do the upgrade.”

Variety of heating options available

Replacement options that meet the program requirements include natural gas and propane inserts, pellet stoves, electric heat pumps, or natural gas or propane furnaces. However, installing a stove or insert tends to be the least expensive when it comes to the rebate offers, Shaw says.

Replacement equipment must meet certain efficiency and/or emissions requirements and work must be performed by a program-approved heating contractor such as Four Day Fireplace.

Old unit must be installed and working

To be eligible for the discount voucher, your old stove or insert must be uncertified or pre-1995 and must be a free-standing manufactured fireplace, wood-burning furnace, or residential coal-burning device. Your old unit must be installed and operable to qualify.
