Arlington students place at JROTC drill

ARLINGTON — Ten high schools took part in a JROTC Drill Competition on Saturday, Dec. 19.

Students from Arlington, Burlington-Edison, Marysville, Oak Harbor, Everett, Mariner, Snohomish, Todd Beamer, Federal Way and Mt. Tahoma high schools participated at the event, which took place at Arlington High School.

Arlington students placed in a number of categories, including two second-place finishes in Color Guard Nos. 1 and 2 and two first-place finishes in Unarmed Drill Team and Unarmed Drill Team Commander (Connie Dauz).

Students also took home fourth-place honors in the Physical Strength Team No. 1 category and seventh-place in the Physical Strength Team No. 2 category.

Other individual placers included Kim Castaneda (fourth place in Top Physical Fitness Female), Hunter Craig (fourth place in Top Physical Fitness Male) and Jon Pallagi (fourth place in Individual Armed Exhibition Drill).

Pallagi also teamed with Nicholai Whippo to take fourth place in the Dual Armed Exhibition Drill.

“The cadets are extremely excited about their performance yet know they must not rest on their laurels because the next competition is only 10 school days from (Monday, Dec. 21),” said Major Mike Blue, JROTC instructor.
