Emmett Sapp on Georgetown

University Dean’s List

Emmett Sapp of Darrington was named to the Spring Semester 2008 Dean’s List.

Sapp received Second Honors, with a GPA of 3.7 or above on a 4.0 scale. “Reaching the Dean’s List at Georgetown is a distinct accomplishment, and I congratulate these students for this honor,” said Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia.

Amy Faxon wins Memorial scholarship

Amy Faxon of Arlington has been awarded a $100 Glenn Chaffin Memorial Scholarship from The University of Montana School of Journalism.

Faxon is a UM junior majoring in print journalism. She is a 2005 graduate of Arlington High School and the daughter of Michael and Leslie Faxon of Arlington.

Dean’s List

The following Arlington students made the spring 2008 academic Deans’ List at Azusa Pacific University. They are honored for semester grade-point average of 3.5 or above. Anna-Lisa K. Overman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth J. Overman. Anna-Lisa is a Performance: Violin major. Karl-Friedrik D. Overman, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth J. Overman, Karl-Friedrik is a Music major.

PLU Graduate Lauren Gamman

Among May 2008 graduates was Laurel Gamman, who earned bachelor’s degrees in history and psychology. A graduate of Lakewood High School, she is the daughter of Larry and Helen Gamman of Marysville.

Laurel was also named to the Dean’s List for Spring 2008. The Dean’s List recognizes outstanding academic achievement and requires a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term. Dean’s List standing becomes part of a student’s official transcript and is a distinguishing factor for students going on to graduate or professional school.

Dannielle Ramos wins two scholarships

Western Washington University student Dannielle Ramos, daughter of Frank and Torrie Ramos of Marysville, received a $1,500 Future Teachers of Color Promise Scholarship and a $1,500 Avis J. Stewart Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Future Teachers of Color Promise Scholarships are awarded to exemplary students of color whose career goal is to become a classroom teacher.

Avis J. Stewart Scholarship is awarded to students who are of sophomore or junior status working toward a degree in education through the Woodring College of Education. Recipients must be in good academic standing in accordance with Western Washington University guidelines.

Ramos, a junior, has a 3.8 GPA and is majoring in History with an Elementary Education endorsement. She hopes to become an elementary school teacher after graduating from Western.

Christian Volk wins music scholarship

Western Washington University student Christian Volkman, son of Jess and Nevese Robinson of Marysville, received a $500 Music Department Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Music Department Scholarship is offered to music students in all performance areas (piano, voice, string, woodwind and brass), and is funded by organizations connected to the fine and performing arts, along with private donations.

Volkman is majoring in Clarinet Performance.

Mathew Camardo wins aviation

Western Washington University student Mathew Camardo, son of Jeffrey and Shannon Camardo of Marysville, received a $2,775 Ron and Rita Spelhaug Aviation Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Ron and Rita Spelhaug Aviation Scholarship is awarded to a student who is preparing for a career in aviation or a related field.

Camardo, a junior, has a 3.6 GPA and is majoring in Recreation. He hopes to fly commercial or military planes after graduating from Western.

Svyatoslav Popach wins MAP

Western Washington University student Svyatoslav Popach, son of Anatoliy and Mariya Popach of Marysville, received a $2000 MAP Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Multicultural Achievement Program Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to multicultural issues and activities in school or the community.

Popach, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.3 GPA at Lake Stevens High School and is interested in majoring in Management. He participated in community service through Alterra and a local youth group during high school. He hopes to own a business that influences the local community after graduating from Western.

Sheela Vadset wins MAP Scholarship

Western Washington University student Sheela Vadset, daughter of Dean and Linda Vadset of Marysville, received a $2,000 MAP Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Vadset, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.59 GPA at M-PHS and is interested in majoring in Elementary Education. She received the Leadership Award and the Youth Challenge Award during high school. She also participated in Big Buddy and Adventure Seekers and volunteered at Cascade Elementary for six years during high school. She hopes to become an elementary school teacher after graduating from Western.

Margaret VanPatten wins scholarship

Western Washington University student Margaret VanPatten, daughter of John and Loree VanPatten of Marysville, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top 8 to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students and are based on superior academic achievement.

VanPatten, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.4 GPA at M-PHS and is interested in majoring in Education.

Sacia Flowers wins two scholarships

Western Washington University student Sacia Flowers, daughter of Sharon Chism of Marysville, received a $1,500 President’s Scholarship and a $2,000 Seattle Business Forum Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

President’s Scholarships are awarded to approximately the top 8 to 10 percent of incoming freshmen and transfer students, and are based on superior academic achievement.

The Seattle Business Forum Scholarship is awarded to entering freshmen and transfers with outstanding academic achievement.

Flowers, an incoming freshman, earned a 3.97 GPA at Marysville Arts and Technology High School. She is interested in majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry and is a National Honor Society member. She was ranked second in her graduating high school class and participated in Habitat for Humanity. She hopes to become a philanthropist focused on science after graduating from Western.
