ARLINGTON — Although Christmas trees are a fun tradition for many families, what’s less fun is finding the time to dispose of them after the holiday season is done.

Fortunately for Arlington residents, the members of Boy Scouts of America Troop 29 will be collecting trees to raise funds for their programs and materials on Jan. 8.

Those who wish to take advantage of this service may either leave their trees near the curbs of their houses by 9 a.m. or drop the trees off at the Arlington City Hall parking lot between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. that day.

All trees must be stripped of any decorations, tinsel and stands.

Rich Winder, speaking for Boy Scouts Troop 29, explained that the city of Arlington has donated not only the space, but also a wood chipper from its Parks Department.

Winder noted that the Scouts collected 500 trees last year, but added that this number was down from previous years. For the Scouts of Troop 29, the Christmas tree collection and drop-off serves as their main fundraiser for the year.
