Get to know Marysville candidates, issues at forum tonight

MARYSVILLE – The Marysville Globe is putting on a Candidates Forum Oct. 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Marysville United Methodist Church.

The newspaper is inviting candidates for the mayor, City Council and school board races.

Each candidate will have 1 1/2 minutes for opening statements. Emcee Steve Powell, managing editor of The Globe, will then ask a few questions of each candidate in each of the races. Each candidate will then get to ask their opponent a question.

The audience will be invited to ask questions after that, as time allows.

“Local elections affect people’s lives more than others, but they are the ones voters know the least about. That’s why we’re putting this on. We hope people will come and get to know the candidates and the issues. There’s no easy way out with a D or an R after their name because it’s nonpartisan,” Powell said.

Light refreshments will be provided.

The invited candidates include: Jon Nehring vs. Michael Patrick for mayor; Jeff Seibert vs. Kelly Richards and Stephen Muller vs. Katherine Iverson for City Council; and Mariana Maksimos vs. Paul Galovin and Tom Albright vs. Halleh Stickels for school board.

All but Iverson, Maksimos and Stickels have RSVP’d for the event.

The event will be live-streamed on the church website at www.marysvilleumc.org.
