ARLINGTON – A quick paving project will make nasty bumps and badly cracked pavement a thing of the past and the highway will be smooth and preserved well into the future. And while the next 30 or so days might be noisy and inconvenient, in the end it will be appreciated by both drivers and car suspensions.

Starting Sunday night Aug. 25, and for roughly the next month, crews will work nights to grind, repair and pave State Route 531 from east of 43rd Aveue NE to just west of SR 9. At times they will alternate along the route where they work to be as efficient as possible.

Because the roadway is narrow, the contractor will close sections of SR 531 and detour traffic around the work zone. These detour routes will be clearly marked with signs, and drivers will also find detour route maps on our project page. On some wider sections of SR 531, only a single lane closure with flaggers will be needed.

Closures next week:

• Sunday, Aug. 25 through Friday morning, Aug. 30 — Both lanes of SR 531 will be closed and detoured some nights between 59th and 67th streets, and other nights between 67th and 73rd streets from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly.
