MOUNT VERNON — The 14-year-old Concrete boy who shot Pam Almli, of Oso, on Aug. 2 last summer was found guilty this week of second-degree manslaughter with a firearm.
Superior Court Judge Susan Cook acquitted the boy June 2 of first-degree manslaughter, finding he didn’t act recklessly. But she said firing at an outline in the fog from 150 yards away wasn’t a hunting accident.
The lawyer for the 15-year-old boy from Concrete argued that the shooting was a tragic accident. The Skagit County prosecutor asked for a first-degree manslaughter conviction.
The boy was sentence to three months in a teen detention facility.
Almli was hiking the popular hiking trail up Sauk Mountain near Rockport. The boy, now 15, was with his older brother who agreed it was a bear.
