Stephen Duane Slinde

Steve Slinde, 83, of Marysville, Wash., passed away into the arms of our Lord on Friday, May 4, 2007.
He was the second of seven children born to Oscar and Hildred (Brown) Slinde, on Oct. 23, 1923, in Stanton, N.D.
Steve was an ambulance driver and medic in the 110th Medical Battalion, 35th Infantry Division under General Patton during the Battle of the Bulge. He received the American Theater Service Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, and The European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in November of 1945, he relocated to the Everett area.
He was a Masonry Contractor in Shohomish County and Grant County until his retirement in 1989. He was a proud member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Marysville, Wash., the VFW, American Legion, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy; his daughters; Barbara Anderson (Dan), Sharon Christy (Bill), Karen Seat (Brad), and Lois Melby (Larry Greenhalgh). Also, his sons, Farlin Butch Jolley (Carol), Brad Irish Jolley (Cynthia) and a special foster son, Dale Burnett.
In addition, he leaves behind 13 grandchildren, Laurie Tiffany, Brent Tiffany, Lisa Tiffany, Kim Fillioe, Barbara Bright, Kari Moore, Steve Melby, Shari Melby, Brad Jolley, Stacy Kutz, Shirley Drake, Shane Jolley and Patti Burnett.
He will also be greatly missed by his brother, Oscar Slinde; sisters, Bernice Boober, Elayne Piatz and Alice Reinholt; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and his many friends.
His 25 great-grandchildren will miss their Poppy. He said they were all keepers. Special thanks to his special friends, Wanda Parker, Barbara Kline, Lloyd Sennett, Jim and Dottie Oas. He was such a happy man who loved to tease and will be lovingly remembered for buttering your hand if you sat too close and didnt pay attention at the dinner table.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Mildred and Lois.
A memorial service officiated by Pastor Jack Richards was held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2007, at Purday and Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood.
Visitation was 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, May 12.
