MARYSVILLE — Lakewood senior Billy McKeever rebounded from a tough second-round loss to Mariner’s Bernard Do to win his next three matches.

It was good enough for third place at the Marysville-Pilchuck Premier on Jan. 17 where his points helped the team place 16th.

No other Cougar made a championship or consolation match.

Lakewood only brought about a half dozen wrestlers to the invitational. In addition to McKeever’s performance, three more Cougars won at least one match. Heavyweight Alex Wilson ran into an Arlington problem, bumping up against eventual bracket champ Bryant Dickerson in the second round off of a defeat of Marysville-Pilchuck’s Daniel Hingley. His next match in the consolation bracket against Arlington’s Ben Torve eliminated him.

At 152 pounds, Jason Mueller won a 13-6 decision over Eastlake’s Tom Kuehny but was eliminated in a tough 4-1 decision by Mariner’s Alex Coffman.

In the lighter weights, Waylen Gwyther also won a match in consolation, rebounding from an opening-round loss to pin Mariner’s Ace Viduya.
