MARYSVILLE — After team losses earlier in the week — a narrow one to Everett and a bruising to Lake Stevens — the Arlington wrestling team visited the M-P Premier, getting a look at regional and upcoming competition.

Eagle captains Nathan Shortt (140), Chris Myers (160) and Bryant Dickerson (285) all reached the championship round of their weight bracket, emerging with wins for Myers and Dickerson. Shortt was one of four wrestlers to fall to a Snohomish wrestler in the final round, with the Panthers winning the invitational.

Three more Arlington wrestlers placed. Varsity teammates Chris Berg and Dustin Ward placed fifth in their brackets, Berg at 130 pounds and Ward moving down into Shortt’s weight class from 145 where he wrestles varsity for the team during dual meets.

Ben Torve gave Arlington a second showing in the heavyweight category, placing third.

With upcoming dual meets against Snohomish and M-P this month, Arlington got a chance to see the competition, sometimes firsthand. Dickerson defeated Snohomish heavyweight Mike Maybin, whom he should face on the mat when the teams clash Jan. 22, 3-1 in the semifinal round.

The Eagles placed seventh overall.
