Animal fighting
August 27, 2008 11:12 pm

The Humane Society of the United States wishes to thank and congratulate U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell for passing a bill to strengthen the nations laws against dog fighting and cockfighting. Cantwells bill, the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act, passed the U.S. Senate unanimously. The U.S. House of Representatives had previously cleared its version by a landslide vote of 368-39, and it is now on the Presidents desk.

Yes on the hospital
August 27, 2008 11:12 pm

North Snohomish County is a great place to live. While there are many things that make it that way, good medical facilities are an important part of the picture. With advances in medicine, the growth of the area and the aging of the current buildings, our hospital is due for a makeover. We need to replace the 1957 building and remodel the 1984 building. That will happen only if we approve the hospital bond levy. Simple choice, best affordable hospital, or something less. Vote, and vote Yes for the hospital.

Utmost importance
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

I am writing this letter to let you know how important the upcoming hospital bond issue is to our community. Last year we were blessed with a beautiful granddaughter who was delivered at Cascade Valley Hospital. The birthing process was handled wonderfully by Dr. Hoffman and the staff. We even had the luxury of being the only family on the maternity ward that night. As the night wore on though, it got increasingly cold, (this was in February), to make matters worse, the air vent was blowing cold air directly overhead. The nurse on duty that night came in and brought us extra blankets and told us the heat was not operating on the floor that night.

The world has changed
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

In his autobiography Mein Kampf, Adolph Hitler stated, For when a people is not willing or able to fight for its existence Providence in its eternal justice has decreed that peoples end. In the late 1930s, Hitler sensed the weakness and equivocation of the great European nations and knew that, if he moved with deceit and swift resolve, he would have a chance to crush Europe. It was, in the end, a close thing because Europeans had become complacent.

Forty Days for Life
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

Forty Days for Life is a spiritual time calling upon God to hear our prayers and end the tragedy of abortion in our neighborhoods, state, and nation. It is a time of prayer, while respectfully being present outside facilities that perform abortions, primarily Planned Parenthood. It is a time to pray for those individuals who enter the facilities as an employee doctor, nurse, staff or patient the mother, the father and their baby.

Accident
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

Last Saturday evening my wife and I attended a cross country meet held on your beautiful Cedarcrest golf course. Unfortunately the evening ended badly. Immediately following the race at 8:05 p.m. we (my wife, my 15-year–old son and I) were traveling south on 67th Avenue. We were in a long line of cars exiting the parking lot from the golf course. At the intersection of Grove Street and 67th we were struck by another car that ran the red light going westbound on Grove Street. We were a fraction of a second from major injuries or worse. Seconds after the impact I got out of the car and asked the driver of the other car if they were okay and also pointed at the still red light in their direction. The cars immediately behind me continued through the still green light.

Making a difference
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

There are many people in this community who do things every day to make a difference, to make the place better than it was the day before. Five years ago when I came to this community I met a number of people who had a similar vision to make the community a better place and in this case to give students another choice to become successful, to find a niche.

Smith family thanks community
August 27, 2008 11:11 pm

Thank you from the family of Oliver Smith. The fear in writing such a thank you is that of forgetting someone very important. Thank you to the Arlington ambulance crew who repeatedly transported dad with such skill, patience and compassion. Thank you to the Arlington Fire Department who provided such a memorable tribute to Dad by attending his service with the Honor Guard and the fire trucks. To Becky Foster for her friendship and her beautiful voice. The Missing Man Formation performed by the Black Jack Squadron after his service, was the most incredible display and an honor that Dad would have forever cherished. It is a memory and an honor that we will forever cherish.

They do a wonderful job of delivering it to me often and theyre the best. But on this particular day someone from my office had gone down and picked up the order and brought it back to the office for me.
