Arlington and M-P to face off in winner-to-state game; M-P soccer wins loser-out match (slide show)

EVERETT — Arlington and Marysville-Pilchuck will compete for the 3A district third-place crown Saturday, May 14, at Everett Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m. The winner will advance to state while the loser will be eliminated. M-P swept Ferndale 11-0 in its consolation loser-out game May 11, while Arlington won its consolation round off a game-winning RBI by Kyle Bayer defeating Shorewood 3-2 on the same day.

SHORELINE — All seemed right for the Marysville-Pilchuck baseball team when they led 1-0 for six innings May 10 during the semifinals of the 3A district tournament against Lynnwood. M-P’s Kyler Alvez scored the Tomahawks’ only RBI in the fourth inning, and Trent Tingelstad was pitching well.

Then came the sixth inning.

Tingelstad gave up two walks and a two-run double which allowed Lynnwood to climb to 3-1 which held to the end.

M-P edged out Shorewood 4-3 May 7 in the first round of the 3A district playoffs. M-P’s Nate Heckendorf was two-for-three at the plate, hitting a double and an RBI, and Tingelstad was one-for-two also with a double and RBI.

SHORELINE — The Arlington baseball team was defeated 11-6 by Glacier Peak May 10 in the semifinals of the 3A district tournament.

Jake Russell led Arlington with two RBI, and Tristan Sheward added an RBI and a double.

Arlington defeated Ferndale 3-1 in the first round May 7. Arlington’s Jake Russell had an RBI and teammate Jack Sheward recorded a run in that game.

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville-Pilchuck boys soccer team knocked Marysville Getchell out of the 3A North district tournament 4-1 in a loser-out game May 10.

Chris Correa-Avila, Ariaan Cardenas, Siloe Galvan and Daniel Amador scored the goals for M-P, and MG’s lone goal was scored by Tajinder Singh.

M-P advances to play Lynnwood in another loser-out game May 12 at Edmonds Stadium at 7:30 p.m. If M-P wins, they will go to Shoreline Stadium to play a winner-third loser-out game Saturday, May 14, at 2 p.m.

M-P lost the first round of the 3A North district tournament to Shorewood 2-1 May 7.
