Agnes Almira Showalter

Agnes Almira Showalter (Carpenter), a loving and much loved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away at Regency Care Center on Oct. 17, 2006.
She was born in Felmouth, Mich. on March 18, 1915.
In her early teens, she and her family moved to Everett. She married Morris Scott Showalter on Aug. 1, 1936. They eventually settled in Machias, Wash., in 1945, establishing a homestead that still exists 51 years later. Agnes was well known in the Machias community for her compassion, sense of humor, and willingness to help others. She will fondly be remembered for providing a loving home for her family and others, and anyone in need of a nurturing home during challenging times in their lives. Any stray animal could always find a home with Agnes.
Agness favorite pastimes were spending time with her extensive family and friends, engaging in card games, and using an incredible vocabulary to score points in Scrabble. She was a keen competitor who always welcomed the opportunity to socialize while playing games. A roaring wood fire and plenty of food created fond memories for all who visited the Showalter homestead. In addition, Agnes often took adult learning classes. She valued the opportunity to learn, and she was a prolific reader whose knowledge base always amazed those who met her.
Agnes is survived by her daughters, Yvonne (Al) Anderson, Katie (Dennis) Fleming and Mary (Don) Boxford. In addition Agnes was the loving grandmother of 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris; and son, George Showalter and his wife, Ellen.
A celebration of Agness life was held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Machias Community Church, 1615 Virginia Street, Snohomish, Wash.
In lieu of floral tributes, Agnes would want any memorials to go to a charity of your choice.
While her family and friends are deeply saddened by her death, they all take strength in knowing that Agnes has moved on to a more comfortable existence,
We would like to thank all at Arlington Regence Care Center, for the care they gave to Agnes.
