Arlington seniors Kyra Prause and Sheryl Scheppele went out on a strong note as the Eagle girls were eliminated from the district tournament in a 49-45 loss to Jackson Feb. 21 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School.
MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — The Highland Christian prep girls lived to play another day. With a 47-39 win Feb. 20 over Tulalip Heritage, the Knights drew a loser-out, winner-to-state game against Lummi.
LAKEWOOD — With their last game of the regular season, the Lakewood boys basketball team had a chance to sneak into the playoffs despite a poorer-than-average record of 3-16.
In just her second season, Lakewood senior Christina Ordonez accomplished what no Lakewood wrestler before her ever had.
With a first-round pin over Kentwood senior and two-time state placer Antonia Navejas, Ordonez brought a wrestling championship home to Lakewood High School.
Arlington sent only two wrestlers to the Mat Classic, but those two made the most of their opportunity.
State ranked, but favored by no means, Arlington seniors Chris Myers and Bryant Dickerson won three matches in a row and competed for their respective state championships, Feb. 21, at the Tacoma Dome.
MILL CREEK — The friendships will go on, but the seniors of the Arlington boys basketball team have played their last game together.
The Eagles, No. 4 in the district tournament out of Wesco North, had a couple of unlucky draws in the double-elimination tournament, falling to a dominant-looking Mountlake Terrace squad that went on to drub Stanwood for a state berth.
The Highland Christian boys couldn’t quite get the monkey off their backs.
Although the Knights came up with three losses against league rival Lummi during the regular season, their Feb. 20 meeting was worth more than those three games combined. The winner of the district tournament game would earn a berth to state.

While Lakewood wrestling has struggled a team this season, the program sends four wrestlers to the state tournament this year.

As the Arlington football season wound to a close, the Eagles drew Shorecrest in the traditional North-South crossover game for teams who missed the playoffs.
