Plan ahead for I-5 closures in Marysville and...

Drivers should plan ahead for overnight lane closures on both directions of I-5 near Marysville and Arlington this week. Crews working on the I-5 Marysville median barrier project and the I-5/SR 531 interchange project will close lanes on I-5 Tuesday through Thursday nights.

Improvements to Smokey Point Boulevard on the horizon

The Stillaguamish Tribe and the city of Arlington will be splitting the bill on an approximately $275,000 asphalt overlay construction project on Smokey Point Boulevard between 175th Street NE and 184th Street NE.
The project will begin shortly after the Fourth of July and is expected to last until the end of the month, officials said.

Report of ‘explosive’ in man’s car turns out...

ARLINGTON — Authorities closed down a section of I-5 to investigate a possible bomb threat only to find out that it was coffee.
The interstate was closed near the SR 532 exit near Stanwood just before noon on Wednesday, June 30, after a 19-year-old man pulled off the road to report that he had had found a container in his car that he thought might be an explosive, said Trooper Keith Leary of the Washington State Patrol.
Washington State Patrol bomb technicians responded to the incident but found that the threat was a coffee container.
Leary said that the man said he had a history of leaving his car open and was concerned about the container.
Washington State Patrol Incident Response also responded to the scene. All lanes of northbound I-5, as well as the exit, are now open.

Investigation leads to robbery, drug charges for Arlington...

ARLINGTON — A robbery investigation has led to a drug bust and the arrest of two Arlington residents.
A 21-year-old and a 17-year-old, both men, are being held on second-degree robbery charges after detectives identified the two individuals as suspects in a reported robbery and assault that took place just before 8:30 p.m. on the 3300 block of 185th Place NE in Arlington.
A 19-year-old male reported that his wallet, as well as more than $360, was taken, authorities said.
On Tuesday, June 29, detectives served a search warrant in the 400 block on South Olympic Avenue, where authorities found the 19-year-old victim’s wallet.

Dog licensing fees are jumping up on Arlington residents.
On Monday, June 21, the City Council approved a resolution to raise the city’s existing fees by up to $10 depending on the dog.

Marysville man among those injured in collision near...

OSO — A 49-year-old Marysville man and a 57-year-old Lynnwood man were among three motorists injured in a crash east of Oso just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, June 26.
The two Snohomish County residents, who were driving motorcycles, were traveling west on State Route 530 when one of the motorcyclists crossed over the center lane and struck a Honda sedan belonging to a 62-year-old Shelton woman.

WSDOT crews closing I-5 lanes at Smokey Point

SMOKEY POINT — Crews will be closing lanes on Interstate 5 at the SR 531 in order to stripe the road starting Monday, June 28.
Up to two right lanes of southbound I-5 will be closed near the overpass from 7 p.m. Monday to 4 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29.
On Tuesday, crews will close up to two left lanes of southbound I-5 between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. Wednesday, June 30.
Up to two left lanes of northbound I-5 will closed on Wednesday starting at 7 p.m. and concluding at 6 a.m. on Thursday, July 1.

County prosecutor: Deputies will not face charges after...

Two Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies will not face criminal charges in the shooting of an Arlington man last summer.
In a letter to the two detectives leading the investigation, Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney Mark Roe wrote that deputies “did everything they could to diffuse the situation” during during a standoff with 64-year-old Dwight Monnie on July 2, 2009.
